As I lay there in the hospital bed, the doctor comes in with my platelet count and says its 75. It should have been 300. I went to the bathroom to pee and it was dark brown. My liver and my kidneys were shutting down. My skin was dark grey and yellow. The doctor said if we were to get an epidural I would have bled out into my spine. I still couldn't comprehend anything because I was starting to slip into a coma. My sister finally came over and said I wasn't going to make it much longer.
My son was born at 12:31 pm on June 17th, exactly two months before he was due. I was put under general anesthesia and had an emergency c-section. Archer came out screaming. My husband was sitting in the waiting area so he could be the first one in to see our son. He got to hear his first cry but couldn't be in the room. He was only on a little bit of oxygen for two days. Since then he has had little to no problems.
I don't remember anything until two days after my c-section. I don't remember the first time I saw my son. They had me on so much magnesium sulfate I couldn't remember or comprehend anything. I do remember the second time though. My husband snapped a picture of me touching him the first time I saw him so I can remember that moment that way. The only thing that was wrong with my son was that he couldn't figure out how to breathe and drink from a bottle at the same time. He would have desaturations while he ate, which is normal for premature babies. We are still in the NICU 5 weeks later but they said he could come home at the end of this week. He will be at 37 weeks gestation.
My name is Morgan, I am 19 years old. My son's name is Archer Louis and he is now 5 weeks old. He was born completely healthy at 31 weeks and 2 days. He is small for his age but he is Mommy and Daddy's little miracle.
